My Background & Story
Philip is a former education technology specialist who has worked with many teachers and students. The idea behind MyePortfolio came about as a result of a gap Philip found in keeping a digital records or a portfolio of students works and artifacts from kindergarten to post secondary education.

In this venture pitch assignment, I presented a cloud based technology application called MyePortfolio. MyePortfolio is designed as an app that would help students store, organize, reflect on, and share items that represent their learning throughout their K-20 education. I had the opportunity to put into practice some of the pitch deck ideas that I learned about, while working with students in the Technovation challenge program. A program dedicated towards helping girls in grade 6 to 12 become technology entrepreneurs. I supported the Technovation challenge program because of my strong inclination towards becoming an entrepreneur.

As a prospective entrepreneur, working through this venture pitch, it provided a valuable experience to immerse myself in the mind of a venture capitalist. I think the number one thing a potential investor is interested in, is making sure the product is viable and profitable while assessing the risks involved. Therefore, it is important for me to present a strong case on my venture pitch, especially highlighting who my target market would be and my financial projections and milestones. With a growing number of students globally, MyePortfolio has a strong target market, very high return on investment and low risk.
Strengths of my Venture Pitch:
In my MyePortfolio venture pitch, I focused on the essential information and questions of a venture capitalist who may be interested in investing in any product. Below are a few highlights of my venture pitch:

My background: I briefly highlighted my background in education. I think this gives credibility to any potential investor who may want to question my knowledge of the education sector. My experience working with teachers and students validates my understanding of the problem statement.

The problem statement: I provided a clear and concise problem statement, which describes the problem which myePortfolio will be addressing. Additionally, in my problem statement, I was able to provide who is affected by the problem.

The Solution: I prsented a direct solution

Business Model: I discussed who the target audience is for MyePortfolio and a tiered pricing model that is competitive

Marketing Strategy: In order to increase MyePortfolio market share, and rate of return, I presented different marketing strategies.

Projections & Milestone: Using statistical analysis, I was able to provide a projected financials for MyePortfolio. A potential venture capitalist would like to know the viability of the product to make money in five to ten years. The financial projections and milestones also provide visibility to a potential investor the risk associated with investing in MyePortfolio.
Weaknesses of my Venture Pitch:
While working on my venture pitch, I wondered if there is any academic research that has been conducted on the effects of documenting students' work digitally. It will be interesting to find out how the use of a digital portfolio app such as MyePortfolio will have on teaching and learning. In a future iteration of my venture pitch, I anticipate including some research work, if any, to buttress the credibility and rationale of the product - MyePortfolio.

Also, in a future iteration of my venture pitch, I anticipate researching and providing data on the market share for the competitor product - Brightspace portfolio app. I think data on the market share on a competitor product will help validate my projections and milestones.
